The saga of Val and the Queen’s patch!
Lesley arranged for our logo to be printed and embroidered on to the patch we had been provided. Val then tried to take it to the queen, here’s how she got on!
A wet Val tried to get into the cathedral close via the high street gate, there was a large crowd and barriors along the high street with police and in some cases with their sniffer dogs patroling the area. The gate was in “lock down”, so I had to go through the rain around to St. Anns Gate in Exeter street. Lots of people where already there incuding large parties of flag waving children. The area near the green attendant hut was cordened off and again “locked down”. So I had to wait for over an hour as the Queen
was due. Asking several policemen and marshal if I could pass and if they knew where the Giant Queen was, no joy! Eventually everyone started to cheer the sun shone and a convoy of cars came into the close through the high street gate I did just get a glimpse of the Queen as she passed to go to lunch, somewhere over the museum side of the close.
We were then allowed to move onto the lawns in front of the cathedral, the paths were cordened off ready for the Queens walk about and cathedral visit, after she had eaten! Still no one seemed to know aout our Queen but at least it had stopped raining.
There were several tents for different councils, jousting, RSPCA, Bustard conservation, history players and so on.
Eventually I found the salisbury council tent at the far end off the very soggy lawns.
There she was over ten feet tall .She had one of her corgis with her, he was very friendly. I presented our patch, although her majesty said nothing, her dressmakers were impressed by the patch and thanked us for it.
I then left pushing through the large crowds still coming into the close wanting to see the other Queen!
After all the excitement it was definitely time I had a cuppa.
